Fact:

Why Protect?

Why should you protect your idea?

Today, Intellectual Property is becoming a valuable asset, allowing people to own their creativity in the same way they can own physical property. You, the owner, can control and be rewarded for its use - if you can prove such ownership.

Maybe you have developed your idea to the extent you are ready to present it. Maybe a prospective partner says “don't contact us if you intend to copyright your idea or protect by patent”. Common sense practise is to enter into confidentiality agreements with those you wish to share your idea with. In the early stages, this can be cumbersome and may put off potential partners. Maybe they refuse outright to sign your confidentiality agreements. Large firms often do.

You are left in a vulnerable position, with no option but to take a risk.

What if they reject your idea only for you to find that it's being developed by their associates, with no proof that they disclosed your idea? You may go to a meeting, give the best presentation of your life to a number of faceless executives and then you never hear from them. You never know if they are developing your idea with more resources than you have, or if they are developing a slight variation of your idea.

Lodging your idea with IdeaSecure gives you piece of mind that your idea is protected in the case of a dispute or theft. Our safe encrypted server can store any file format - we're so committed to security that we don't open them ourselves. Once registered, your work cannot be viewed by anyone or altered in any way. We only provide a copy of the work to you, the author and originator of the idea, upon request and after security checks.

When you have registered with IdeaSecure, you may then disclose your idea to selected parties, and in addition to the universal © sign, you have the option of stating your IdeaSecure Serial Number, showing would-be thieves that you are not an easy target, and your idea is recognised as belonging solely to you.

Imagine if you opted for "poor man's copyright" and posted your ideas to yourself, registered mail or not. In the case of a dispute, you have to open the package. What if another, bigger dispute occurs afterwards? You'd be left with no protection. On top of this, posted documents are an unreliable and risky path to take if you require hard evidence of ownership.

Perhaps friends and family can witness the conception of your work. But that's exactly the problem - they are your friends and family. If someone stole your idea, they could have their own friends and family vouch for them too. It would be your word against theirs, and no evidence such as this or posting to yourself would stand up in court.

IdeaSecure is a low-cost solution to immediate & long-term protection needs. Once your idea is underway, that is the time for you to dedicate more finance to it, whether in the form of consulting patent lawyers or creating the end product itself. But if your idea stalls or is put on hold – you'll have protected it without having broken the bank. Once your idea reaches a further, more advanced stage, you can re-register it in its new form, providing you with protection and peace of mind at every step of the way.
